For the Painter #60: A Reflection

Published over 1 year ago • 1 min read

Fall is in the air, which makes me happy!

Here are some photos of eco prints I recently made. Eco printing is a method of pressing leaves onto paper and boiling in natural dyes. This batch included rust water, onion skins, and oak galls. The results are different every time. I'll use the papers for collage, art journals, and cards - or I'll just look at them to remind me of fall!

"My role in society, or any artist's or poet's role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all."

-John Lennon

(John Lennon was born on this date, Oct 9 in 1940).

Continuing with the fall theme, here is a nice video demo of fall leaves in watercolor by Fabio Cembranelli.

I love watching Fabio paint because the leaves seem to emerge without effort from the watercolor paint.

Have a great week!

Hi Reader, I hope you are doing well. Spring is just around the corner, which is always a wonderful feeling. Thank you for being a loyal follower of my art and this newsletter. Eight months ago, my husband Nick died unexpectedly at home. Nick was my rock, best friend, and north star in my night sky. Always my number one fan, he encouraged...

Hi Reader, The May Co-Create Sessions are starting tomorrow, and I wanted to share with you why you may want to join us. These online sessions are a great opportunity to work on your creative projects in a supportive setting. We all know how hard it can be to find the time and focus to create, especially when there are so many distractions around us. Text messages, funny dog videos, and laundry distract us from meaningful time spent on our creativity. This meaningful time is what Cal Newport...

Hi Reader, Hope you're doing well and enjoying the arrival of spring! Even though it's been pretty chilly and rainy where I am, I've managed to sneak in a few sketching sessions at my local boatyard. Since the weather hasn't been too cooperative, I've had to get creative with my sketching spots. I've found a few spots where I can paint from the back of my car, using the hatchback door as an umbrella for when it's lightly raining. And on those super rainy days, I've resorted to sketching from...
