Online Classes This Month...let's light up your imagination ✨

Hi Reader,

The May Co-Create Sessions are starting tomorrow, and I wanted to share with you why you may want to join us. These online sessions are a great opportunity to work on your creative projects in a supportive setting.

We all know how hard it can be to find the time and focus to create, especially when there are so many distractions around us. Text messages, funny dog videos, and laundry distract us from meaningful time spent on our creativity. This meaningful time is what Cal Newport calls Deep Work.

"Efforts to deepen your focus will struggle if you don't simultaneously wean your mind from a dependence on distraction." -Cal Newport

But with Co-Create, we hold the space for each other by leaving social media and laundry for later! We gather on Zoom with a creative project in mind. After a quick intro to set the tone, I set a timer for 60 minutes of focused art time. And don't worry about being perfect or finishing your project, the emphasis is on enjoying the creative process.

You'll have the space and support to dive into your project. Let your imagination run wild, whether you feel like painting, journaling, sketching, mixed media, or anything else that sparks creative joy.

The sessions take place on Zoom on Thursdays, May 11, 18, and 25 at 10 AM Pacific/1 PM Eastern, and they only cost $29. You can sign up at the link below:

Also, I wanted to remind you that my online class, Creative Sparks: Let's Light Up Your Imagination, is starting next week. This is a two-week live online class full of fun art prompts and inspiring creative exercises. We'll be sketching, writing, and painting with watercolor.

In this class, you will rediscover a playful, joyful approach to creativity. It's like an at-home art retreat where you can let your creativity shine. When you approach your art with playfulness and joy, you're more likely to come up with new ideas and inspiration, and less likely to worry about making mistakes.

Creative Sparks: Let's Light Up Your Imagination takes place on Zoom on Tuesdays, May 16 and 23, from 10 AM-Noon Pacific / 1 PM - 3 PM Eastern, and the cost is $89.

Bonus: When you sign up for Creative Sparks, you can join the Co-Create Sessions for free! So if you're looking for some accountability and inspiration to keep creating, this is a great opportunity for you. You can sign up at the link below:

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me. I'd be happy to chat with you about these classes and how they can help you be more creative.

I hope you have a fantastic week!

Hi Reader, I hope you are doing well. Spring is just around the corner, which is always a wonderful feeling. Thank you for being a loyal follower of my art and this newsletter. I've been on a sabbatical from writing, an extended bereavement leave. But like the emergence of spring, I'm slowly finding my way back in a nurturing way. Eight months ago, my husband Nick died unexpectedly at home. Nick was my rock, best friend, and north star in my night sky. Always my number one fan, he encouraged...

Hi Reader, Hope you're doing well and enjoying the arrival of spring! Even though it's been pretty chilly and rainy where I am, I've managed to sneak in a few sketching sessions at my local boatyard. Since the weather hasn't been too cooperative, I've had to get creative with my sketching spots. I've found a few spots where I can paint from the back of my car, using the hatchback door as an umbrella for when it's lightly raining. And on those super rainy days, I've resorted to sketching from...

Hi Reader, James Gurney is an artist I've followed for many years. James is generous with painting information. He's highly skilled, a bit quirky, and includes some fun elements in his videos, such as ending with accordion music played by his son. In this video, James paints a street in Ireland using watercolor, gouache, and pen. It's interesting to see his setup too. I also noticed that even though the video is about 7 minutes, he mentions the small sketch took him over 2 hours. Good to know...
