For the Painter #63: A conduit for passing energy

Published over 1 year ago • 1 min read

Hi Reader,

I hope you're enjoying your Sunday and can find time for your creativity today, even if it's just 15 minutes.

It's wet here on the Oregon coast. The forecast says we could get an inch of rain and thunderstorms later tonight. It sounds like a good day to clean up the studio and work on a painting.

I like this quote below, but probably wise to avoid trying this outdoors when thunderstorms are in the forecast. You could get more energy than you bargained for!

Art is standing with one hand extended into the universe and one hand extended into the world, and letting ourselves be a conduit for passing energy.

Here is an inspiring demo by the magnificent watercolor portrait artist Eudes Correia from earlier this summer. It's a long one; I'll admit I watched it at double speed. I'm amazed at Eudes' ability to paint loosely yet capture such a remarkable likeness.

Hi Reader, I hope you are doing well. Spring is just around the corner, which is always a wonderful feeling. Thank you for being a loyal follower of my art and this newsletter. These online sessions are a great opportunity to work on your creative projects in a supportive setting. We all know how hard it can be to find the time and focus to create, especially when there are so many distractions around us. Text messages, funny dog videos, and laundry distract us from meaningful time spent on our creativity. This meaningful time is what Cal Newport...

Hi Reader, Hope you're doing well and enjoying the arrival of spring! Even though it's been pretty chilly and rainy where I am, I've managed to sneak in a few sketching sessions at my local boatyard. Since the weather hasn't been too cooperative, I've had to get creative with my sketching spots. I've found a few spots where I can paint from the back of my car, using the hatchback door as an umbrella for when it's lightly raining. And on those super rainy days, I've resorted to sketching from...
